Phaedra by Jean Racine - Costume Design
The design for Phaedra was built through a collaboration of costume, lighting and sound to drive a visceral experience. Phaedra reflected on the actions that lead to her downfall, all the characters emerged and retreated into darkness.
The focus for costumes was texture and light-reflecting fabrics and embellishments that sit across the vast range of ‘black’. Modern military met ancient Greek chlamys and chitons, a ‘bronze’ horses’ head shield, plus a few punk touches.
