Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare - Costume & Set Design
Measure for Measure’s set of mirrors and light asks us to think about the layers and intricacies of judgement, hypocrisy and the grey area between right and wrong.
Huge light boxes set the tone for each scene representing a doorway, a jail, a place of worship and a gateway to a higher plane. Each performance took place in front of an audience ‘jury’ and the production became a timely look at a woman used as a pawn by a number of men.
The colour palette was inspired by the archival programme of the Riverside Studios’ 1979 production, starring Helen Mirren.
The fourth of five one-week plays by Flywheel Theatre Company at Riverside Studios as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
